I'm currently working overseas and eager to buy an engagement ring with a Canadian diamond, so it looks like I'll have to order online (can't find them locally). After checking brilliantearth.com, i picked out a round 1 carat, F color, VS2 stone with super ideal cut (US$7400) and was planning on a platinum solitaire comfort setting. Now I'm starting to worry if this ring is going to look too common. Should I consider a different cut/fancier setting? Ladies, please advise! I tend towards classic/plain styles, but maybe my gf might like something more stylish? Please give me some engagement ring advice?
Check out Amazon and you should be able to get what you want. Cheaper too!

I'm not a solitary solitaire fan, just think it's boring. Mine has a solitaire with smaller shoulder stone, and the matching wedding band has three of the smaller stones.
Consider something different -

Well that sounds beautiful and classic and it's a good example of your style. What is your girlfriends style? If you feel like this is something she would love go for it. It will be special because it's hers and because you picked it out. If not check into a different setting for the stone those can always bring some more character into a ring. Hope this helped.
If you are flexible about whether it is Canadian or not, you could certainly save some money. The price of $7400 is almost at the top of the price range for diamonds matching the description (round, 1 carat, F color, VS2, ideal cut). According to http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/ the price range is $4,856 to $7,848. Those are all online prices (Blue Nile, Mondera, James Allen, Abazias, etc., about 10 retailers have their diamonds listed on that site).
For a hint as to her style choices, can you check photos of her dressed up (or ask a friend to check her jewelry box)?
I hope this helps.
Nahhhh.
A solitaire will show off the diamond, big time! Less is more.
You should probably consider making the ring narrow. If it's too wide, then the diamond starts to look smaller.

No, that is classic. What you could do is pick a diamond of a different shape. Maybe a cushion? A cushion is like a round and a princess (square) together. The length/width ratio should be 1:10-1:20:1.
I have an emerald shape solitaire rectangle which should be 1.30-1.40:1 length/width ratio, 7/8ths carat (.89), E/VVS2, very good cut that was 4000 loose, the platinum 2.5mm
comfort solitaire setting was 700. Bought from blue nile.
I checked the site. I searched from .83 to 1.05 in emerald, asscher, cushion, and round shapes with very good cut or better, color G or better, clarity VS2 or better. For the price, I think you can find a better deal elsewhere.
For one thing, you don't want EGL, their parameters in grading diamonds are very loose, so you could get a diamond that is 1 to 2 notches lower than what it was graded as.
Many of these diamonds do not fit my strict parameters. Most of the rounds have depths greater than 62.5, that is out of the excellent range. Many the tables are too small. Most have girdles you wouldn't want ranging from thin to extremely thick in the same stone. And, alot of fluorescence, and you don't want that on a colorless diamond. Also, the length width ratios are not in parameters for most of the shapes.
I found zero (out of 264) I considered a well balanced quality diamond that is a fair price.
I like the setting alot. Consider a different shape, I like different.
here is mine, a solitaire is classy, and for the budget you can get a sizeable one with great quality. My pic is poor, you can see the soap residue at the culet. It is an E/VVS2 .89ct platinum set 2.5mm comfort fit. IMO rings don't get any prettier than a quality decent sized solitaire. Agree with 4REEE less is more, you don't want anything to detract from the quality center stone you are getting. http://www2.snapfish.com/slideshow/Album鈥?/a>
