I was looking through engagement rings and I LOVED the Tiffany's ones, but I couldn't help but notice how expensive they are. I was just wondering if Tiffany's rings are really that much higher quality than say a Jared or Zales or Kings etc. or if it is like paying for the name? From the pictures on the websites, Tiffany's look the prettiest by far, the style of many of their rings seem to be very unique and hard to find a store that sells comparable rings.
Also, I was wondering what the advantages are of Platinum vs. White Gold- as far as look and durability etc.
Thank you!I need some Engagement ring advice...?
It's not hard to find a store that sells comparable settings... you just have to stay away from the chain stores! :) As far as the quality thing goes, check out this article about Tiffany diamonds vs. Costco diamonds:

The truth is, Tiffany diamonds are GIA certified, so any GIA certified diamond with the same 4 C's is going to be comparable to Tiffany diamonds. You won't fine many GIA certified diamonds at Zales (they are on the verge of bankruptcy right now anyway!). But, places like bluenile.com and other reputable local jewelers sell GIA diamonds. You just have to ask the right questions.
As for the settings, Tiffany settings are beautiful, but there are places that make comparable settings for half the price. Here in San Francisco, I love Derco, Giraux, Simayof, Brilliant Earth. Even Shane Co online (and in their stores) have beautiful quality settings. Stay out of the mall - that's my best advice!I need some Engagement ring advice...?
Hopefully you're not wanting to get married to one of those ';gold diggers'; cause the Tiffany rings are WAY more expensive then I would ever want to pay for a ring. My husband spent $500 on mine, and I'm fine with that.
Think about it, if she were to loose it, all that money down the drain.
Platinum they say is like indistructable, and white gold does fade a little through time... the golder color shows through. But Platinum is MUCH more expensive... GOOD LUCK!! =)
You're partly paying for the name and their unique styling. Have you considered taking one of the styles that you like to a reputable jeweler and have the recreate it for you? From what I hear, platinum is a more expensive metal, yet it scratches easily. White Gold is the way to go! Best of Luck
I found this ebook really helpful:

goodluck, it was stressful but worth it in the end for me :)
I'm getting a Tiffany, I love their rings!
But that aside. You are paying a bit more for the name, but your also getting quality! One of the other nice things that you pointed out is they have unique styles that you can't find everywhere else. Jared's and Zales I've always thought sold similar if not matching items. So do you want to take the chance that someone else you may know just might have the same ring that you do? I hope not.
Also, I don't know if you know much about ';blood diamonds'; or ';conflict diamonds';. But if your wanting to know where your diamond is coming from and to know that you are not getting a diamond that people have been killed over, I would go with Tiffany's. They make sure that their diamonds are not conflict or blood diamonds.
Platinum last longer. Even though it is more expensive, it will last you longer.
Good luck on picking out your ring!
Firstly CONGRATULATIONS!!!
anyway, all the ring brands are the same some are just more expensive because of the looks or just what has been used to make them, i have a engagement ring from argos (link in the sources bit) and i love it, it wasn't to expensive but looks like it could of even been designer, if i was you i would take her along to different shops and let her pick a ring she likes (after you have asked her) IF not just keep looking around :)
