I have been dating this girl for some time now and I think about her all the time. I am the happiest when she is with me and I know that she feels the same way as I do. I've never felt love this strong for someone, SO I would like to pop the question. but I 1st need a ring. I would like to spend about 800 to 1000 dollars on the ring and if anyone has any advice that any one might able to give me that would help allot to.Is $800 to $1000 enough to spend one an Engagement Ring? and any advice that can be given will be nice.?
The budget is not as important as the knowledge you need before going shopping. So I would like to give you some pointers to help you out.
First - NEVER pay full price for jewellry. Its is marked up a rediculous amount. Also, if you are paying cash, most jewellers (especially ones that are not chains) are willing to negotiate with you.
Most jewellers also have lay-away plans if you find something you have to have and its just a bit out of your budget.
Consider the fact that your girl will be wearing this ring every day for the rest of her life. So it needs to be sturdy and strong. You have a couple of options for this: First look for a ring that has some weight to it - not something that's paper thin. Gold by its nature is soft, so the thinner the band the more likely it is to bend or break.
Also, on that same topic, consider going for a 10, 12, or 14 karat gold. It doesn't affect the color much but the lower the karat weight the stronger the ring will be. (most jewellers will try to push you to an 18 + karat and you don't need that)
In regards to the stone you have lots of options. Again the jeweller will like try to persuade you to the highest quality of diamond you can afford, but the truth is - in your price range you could end up with something really tiny. Instead you can compromise a little and look at some diamonds that may have a small shadow in them. Even with that, lots will have great sparkle factor, and usually people can't even tell.
Another option which a lot of people are moving to is to not bother with a diamond at all. The latest trends are moving towards sturdy gemstones like blue saphires which are gorgeous and way cheaper than diamonds. Not to mention being a real statment.
Some even go with celtic knots or antique rings as well which are beautiful and will help you with your budget.
I hope that helps. :)Is $800 to $1000 enough to spend one an Engagement Ring? and any advice that can be given will be nice.?
I think that's a pretty good amount. Remember girls can be picky about jewelry, ESPECIALLY an engagement ring. Before you actually buy one, walk around with her in the mall and look at rings in the windows. If you don't want her to get suspicious, say something like, a friend of mine got this type of ring for his girlfriend, what do you think.
Have you even noticed what kind of Jewelry she has? Ask her best friend to help you shop for a ring. If your girlfriend is kinda classy with all of her stuff that she has, she may be offended with a ring that isn't Diamond and Platnium. Otherwise, if she isn't that stuck up, that amount of money, with the right jeweler could get you a custom ring that will take her breath away
you could always go to auction websites that will allow you to get a pricier ring for cheap (your estimate)
(i.e. www.bidz.com, www.ebay.com, etc)
just be aware that most people on their are jewelers that want to get jewelry for cheap too! (so it will be hard, so just bet at the end of the auction, is my suggestion)
PS know her ring size because rings can only be upsized or downsized by two sizes so beware!
Good luck! and Congratulations!
I'm going to keep it real...if you have a tv in your home for more than $1000, or enough dvd's, video games %26amp; cd's that together cost $1000 or more...than no it's not enough to spend on the ring your wife will wear forever...:-)
Bring on the thumbs down!
i was eighteen when i got married and thats what i spent. you wont get much rock for that cash but shouldn't matter. on our 10yr i bought her a 7k ring... she was happy with that even though she said it didn'y matter
yeah i think that would be a reasonable price but at the end of the day it's not about how much money you spent it's the though that counts
a thousand dollars is def enough, but try to get some info first from her b4 you go lookin, like if she likes yellow gold or white gold or just what she likes in general.
That sounds like a good price range to me, and besides it shouldn't even matter how much the ring costs. It's what the ring represents that matters.
It depends on the girl.
I would go to mall or somewhere with a jewelry display and she if comments on any of the jewelry.
For me 1000 would be enough money spent though.
yep that's a good amount. that's probably even above average. they say about a 2 week to a one month paycheck.
I think you've got a good price range but I'd talk to your future fiance first about just what style of ring she wants....don't worry about what the people on here like.
(HI to the other Lydia!)
That amount will get you an amazing ring! Even a set if you wish, which includes the wedding band.

Yeah! I think its fine.. Just make sure at least the band is real, at first the diamonds do not have to be all real.. The longer your married you keep getting it upgraded.. As long as it looks nice and doesnt turn my finger green then im good with it. Dont get anything that looks cheap.. Please!
