I have 2 gold rings with diamonds in them and take them off to shower, do the dishes, clean and to go to bed...
But they are gross, how do you ladies keep your jewelry clean??
Thanks in advanceEngagement ring issue, some advice?
The best thing I have ever found to clean my rings was not the cleaner from the stores, (which is ok) is toothpaste. Yep....toothpaste! It's awesome at cleaning rings! I have an old soft toothbrush that I use, and just a plain old cheap brand toothpaste, nothing with whitening or abrasives in it or anything like that. It's something my mom has been doing for years....and her wedding set is 36 years old, and STILL looks brand new!!
Bonus...it smells minty fresh for a little while....lolEngagement ring issue, some advice?
There's 2 ways to do it.
My jeweler recommended boiling water and bending a wire hanger to dip the rings into boiling water for just a few seconds.
Your other option is easier and safer to do. Buy jewelry cleaner. It's pretty cheap at Walmart (about half the price of what expensive jewelry stores charge). Follow the directions on the jar and you're clean!
You can take them into a jewelry store and they'll usually clean them on the spot for free. Then pick up a jar of cleaning solution to use between deep cleanings.
I keep an old toothbrush in the shower that I use every couple of days to clean my ring with. I just use the hot water from the shower and then set it on the shelf in my shower until I'm done.
I wear my diamond rings all the time - only take them off to do things like mix hamburger meat or dough.
Maybe wearing them in the shower and doing dishes will actually clean your rings!
Otherwise, get out your toothbrush and scrub them. Take them once a year to be ultrasonically cleaned at a jewellery store.
Go to wherever you got the rings from or any local jeweler and pick up jewelry cleaning solution. This usually comes with a brush that you can clean your rings with anytime. Also you can go into any jewelry store and have them clean your rings free of charge (in most places).
Eh, who has time to run to the jeweler when you want your rings cleaned? Not me. I take one of those electric toothbrushes you can get and I dip it in regular jewelry cleaner and give my rings and necklaces a quick brushing. It works great to get lotion and soap out of the diamonds and it is gentle enough. Just make sure not to press too hard.
Well mine hasn't exactly gotten dirty, but when i notice fingerprints on it, i huff my breath on at and wipe it just like you would glasses.
I also have a free cleaning at the jewelers where he bought it every six months.
If you don't have a free cleaning, you can buy jewelry cleaner, and clean it every few months, or whenever you feel its dirty.
i never never never take my off... every time i wash my hands they get washed also... i get into something messy, and i have a nail brush that i rub across my rings and nails.... diamonds are forever and so is gold....
enjoy your rings... don't let them control you....
I never take off my rings ! if I have to do anything dirty then I wear rubber gloves, this is not for the rings but for my hands . My rings are platinum and as with all precious metals (apart from silver) they will withstand the usual day to day situations and wont be affected.
Leave them on, I would be so scared to lose them ....
For routine cleaning, just an old soft toothbrush and a little toothpaste, and it will make it gleam. Be gentle, no need to scrub.
For deep cleaning, a jeweler can do this for you, take where you bought the rings and it might get done for free.
Buy some jewelers soaking solution, or use a little household ammonia. It really doesn't take that long to soak off the grime.
Kay Jewelers will clean your ring for free. We have 1 in our mall and 1 on base and they both clean them! So whenever Im near one of them I take the 2 minutes to have them scrub them! :)
Usually a jewelry store in the mall will clean it for free. You can always get jewelry cleaner from like Walmart or JcPenny.
To clean my wife's ring, I got a soft, baby's tooth brush and some liquid Dawn.
I carefully brush all around and rinse under hot tap water and then brush again.
For the *final* rinse, I use hot distilled water. Hot tap water will leave water spots on the diamond, so don't use that!
I then use a can of compressed air to dry it.

I got some jewelry cleaner and a little machine at Walmart. I let the rings vibrate in the cleaning solution for a few minutes and then I use a toothbrush and a toothpick to degunk. Then I rinse them off with water and they're all nice and clean.
Personally, I wouldn't put my rings in boiling anything, it could loosen the settings.
