Engagement ring advice!?

Is Princess cut, cheaper than round brilliant and which is better for e-ring?Engagement ring advice!?
My advice is to find out which one SHE likes. I thought I liked Princess but then tried some on and they looked awful. I tried all shapes after that and LOVED the round. So my fiance ended up getting me a round cut diamond. It may be better to find out whatshe likes and then spend whatever you want to spend on that shape as far as clarity/carat. Just make sure your gem is certified and insured!

Good luckEngagement ring advice!?
I work in a jewellers, basically the value of diamond goes on the 4 'C's', which are the cut, colour, clarity and carat.

The value of the diamond is increased by having a good cut. A well cut diamond with ideal proportions will reflect more light internally and will look more sparkly. A diamond with a poor cut, which is too shallow or too deep, which is not well proportioned will not reflect the light as well, most of it will escape instead of being reflected.

Although generally I have found that more fancy cuts of diamond such as princess, emerald and marquise are a bit more expensive.

The average diamond has around 54 facets, the more facets a diamond has, the more light is reflected and the more sparkly it appears.

Personally I really like emerald cut diamonds because you don't see as many about, and the round cut is quite common, but I also think the setting makes a big difference too.
I've never noticed a difference in the price that would be significant. I personally prefer a round brilliant because you are correct in that it does sparkle more. But there are so many factors that affect a diamonds price that I don't think you can just chalk it up to the shape of the diamond.

If you are buying for quality look for the best quality cut (not shape) you can afford of the specific shape you want. Cut (quality not shape) is the most important factor in the sparkle/brilliance of a diamond.

You can then save money by going lower on the carat weight (get near a certain carat, like .71 instead of exactly 3/4 or .96 instead of a whole 1 carat, you won't be able to tell the difference visually, but that little bit can save a lot of money).

You can also save money by lower the quality on the other 2 c's (colour and clarity), but do this with caution because they also can have affect on the brilliance of the diamond. get a near-colourless grade (G or H) instead of colourless (D, E or F), an untrained person will never be able to tell the difference. If you have the diamond set in yellow gold you could definitely choose an H colour diamond safely, with no one noticing any yellow.

Also, clarity is something that is nice to have a great quality of, but few people beyond professional jewelers can actually see flaws because they are so small. Just aim for something that is ';eye-clean'; and you should be fine. Stay about VS2 clarity for a great quality diamond.

Hope that helps!
Okay, cat's here's the lingo on the e-rings. You pick a ring based on the girl. Not on the sparklies. If your girl is more of a classic and modern business woman, you pick the round. It sparkles more because there are more cuts in a round cut diamond. 86 for regular, more for the ';brilliant';. Princess cuts are just square diamonds. If your girl works a lot with her hands, she'll get it caught up in a bunch of stuff. Also, the round cut that is more expensive is simply because it has more cuts. If you found a 86 facet diamond (86 cuts) then it would be about the same price as a princess. They do not have brilliant princess cuts. They don't exist. If you really want to get something nice, try asscher cut or cushion cut diamonds. They are square and have either a nicer dimensional look or more cuts then a princess. Just make sure you buy something with a lot of facets because the light will refract more in the stone causing it to be more sparkly.
Princess cut screams the 90's= very dates and very common. The facets are not nearly as nice as the round's. You get that of X shaped pattern in the center. Go with the round brilliant. It is classic and never goes out of style. Round brilliants are the best selling diamond shape.

Sorry to anyone with a princess cut. This is not meant to offend. Just my personal preference. I have a radiant that is elongated. It has the facets cut like a brilliant, but is squarish in shape. I know a lot of gals like the princess cuts, but my friends who are older'; like in their 30's and beyond tend to go for the more unique stones like cushion or ascher cuts or a sizable round brilliant.

A girl at my job just got engaged and got a gorgeous 1ct Tiffiney round brilliant and it is to die for.

A princess cut is square and a brilliant cut is round, its not the shape but the carat that defines the price.

You can get square cut diamond or brilliant cut diamond rings at the same price it depends on the design you want.

www.diamondgeezer.com - try this.

As for which is better you need to ask your girl, I have a princess cut as I like the square better than the round, everyone has round.
I think people make the mistake of trying to get the most expensive or biggest, all you have to do is think about the lucky lady in question, what does she like, is she an elegant girl or is she more out spoken, has she got petite fingers or has she bulky fingers, do you want a traditional solitaire ring or something with a twist? does she like the diamond or would she like her birthstone colour? the best engagement ring is given from the heart and she will know, I wouldn't go for a ring with a twist they are very hard to find a wedding ring to sit properly, if you are going for a diamond make sure its clear, ask to use one of those eye things that the jeweller will have and a good look. A girl does like the idea of a princess cut ring and they are normally a little bit more expensive, but what ever you decide make sure you know what size she is! good luck and best wishes ( its so exciting)
To answer your question, round cut is more expensive than any other cut. But you need to go for quality. If she wants round, then get a half ct round. Make sure you check out http://www.bluenile.com on that site you can learn about the 4c's and then search for a diamond in YOUR budget. My ring came from http://www.abazias.com and it's amazing. But yes, round brilliants are more expensive for the same carat and other stats. It does have more facets than the other cuts. But like I said, go smaller with better clarity and it will be more beautiful!
round is the least expensive cut unless there are quality differences between the two stones you are looking at the reason for this is that less is cut away from the rough stone so there is less waist and yes the classic round sparkles more if its bang for the buck your looking for the round is your best bet
The price doesn't matter according to cut.

Yes, brilliant round is the best for an engagement ring - even a small percentage of a carat sparkles like crazy - plus, it's traditional and classic. Princess is just a current fad, and I personally don't find them pretty at all.

Personally i think round brilliant is much nicer and yes does sparkle more - what is more expensive is the colour and clarity of the diamond - go to this site it will really help you with what you need to know about what is ebst to get:

the cut of a ring should not make a difference in price as long as both cats are even and the stone is of good quality and size.

I have a princess and it sparkles like crazy. It all depends on how many facets they have. Go shop around as see what you can find.
Don't buy a ring off the internet is my advise goto Jareds it will save you in the long run. Cleanings, re dips, stone placement, stone replacement, warrantys, etc. The minute there is discoloration or a stone is loose what are you going to do?
I was looking at Princess cuts but then found a radiant (slightly elongated). My diamond is colorless - obviously a very high quality stone. It sparkles just as much as a round.
Think Princess cut might be slightly dearer but it has definately got more wow factor

I got a round cut diamond for my e-ring its sort of alright but i wouldnt have picked it myself its boring
Just choose one that you like the look of and you think she will like. If you are in the UK a chain called Goldsmiths were very helpful to me.

Good luck mate!
I thought princess was more expensive. See what your fiancee-to-be's choice would be...
absolutely only u know ur partner taste..depends on ur budget also..but in my opinion, the ring with a diamond is da best..

think wisely b4 u buy..gud luck!!
