So I have a friend who just got engaged. She dropped a hint that she would like an engagement party. But being socially ignorant I need some help with the planning... She is Japanese and the wedding will take place in Japan. So I think she would like this party maybe to celebrate with her American friends who won't be able to go. Are there any American or Japanese traditions for an engagement party? Is there anything we should plan beyond having food, drinks, music and inviting all her friends? Are gifts expected???Need some advice on planning an engagement party? (Anyone Japanese on here?)?
