I am looking to pop the question in the spring but have limited funds. Does anyone know where I can go to get a quality ring at a fair price?Engagement ring advice?
if you want quality you have to pay for quality. there is no such thing as quality for a fair price. whats your range and have you thought about financing or even putting the ring on layaway until you can pay it off? what you could do is either get a fair quality and upgrade later meaning trading in to get a higher quality... if you don't want to do that the other option is either sacrificing size for quality or vice verse but as far as getting quality for fair price good luck. why don't you try looking on bluenile.com this website is the only website i trust buying from but as i ready from what other people put on here do NOT buy your ring off of ebay or amazon. i highly recommend bluenile.com and they also teach you what to look for in diamonds and everything you should know.Engagement ring advice?
the only way you are going to guarantee quality is to see the actual gem in person before your purchase it.
pay a visit to your local jeweler and explain the situation to them. Then schedule an appointment for you and your fiancee to come back together and have her pick from a selection of rings in your price range.
if you're not getting a gem or quality is not important then any reputable dealer, on line or in person, would be fine.
edit:
if you know something about gems then I second that pawn shop suggestion. I've seen some very nice quality rings for stupid low prices.
I know many people won't buy a ring from walmart b/c well they are just ';to good';. Really walmart does have some gorgeous rings! Also any of the places in the mall including sears, jcpenneys, zales, kays, etc have clearance sales all the time. You can also get a credit card with no interest for 6 months to a year and make payments on it! Good luck and Congrats!
Overstock.com, eBay, pawn and vintage shops. Try the Diamond District if you live in New York or Philadelphia. Does a family member have an heirloom ring or diamond that they would be willing to give you?
You could also get her a gemstone other than a diamond - that way, the ring will be priced lower, and you can get a higher-quality gemstone rather than a lower-quality diamond.
I heard Costco has good deals on jewelry, but I dont know about engagement rings in particular.

Just remember its supposed to cost the equivalent of 3 months of your salary (if you are trying to estimate the proper dollar amount to pay).

It is how i foudn my wifes diamond a few years ago-- the jewler said he has neve seen such a perfect princess cut when i had it set. (that is why research is important).
Try Gordon's jewelers or Kay's. My fiancee' bought my engagement ring from Gordon's during Christmas for half price and its gorgeous! We bought my wedding band at Kay's on clearance for $250, everywhere else had the same exact ring for 400-600 dollars. Look on their websites they have nice things!
go study and learn on the website pricescope.
i highly recommend the supercert princess from barry at excel diamonds. it as a high round crown like a cushion cut. extraordinary.

Walmart and Kmart have discount jewelry as well. You may get lucky at a pawn shop too.
Good luck
my engagement ring is from a pawn shop, and i love it! The way i look at it is there is no reason to pay $800 for a nice ring when you can get one just as nice for $200!
The best place for that is http://mdcdiamonds.com/EngagementRings.c鈥?/a>
I'd suggest taking your fiancee with you jewelry shopping - my husband asked me to go with him and it was really fun, and we chose a ring we both loved. I highly recommend it.
Kay's my i bought my new husbands ring at Kay;s it was a $500 ring i got it for 190 on clearance he got mine there to on clearance.
I love ice.com, they even have payment plans so you can get the ring and make 3 or 5 payments on it!
