I'm looking to spend around 6K.
She likes round diamonds and platinum bands. That's all I know. I figure that she'd like a solitare or maybe a 3 stone setup - not anything overboard. But I'm certain that as long as there is a nice big fantastic looking diamond in there, she'll love it.
I have no idea about this stuff and don't have many resources who I can ask. What I can expect to get in tems of the 4Cs, etc to have made a good deal? Any good websites to go to? I want to have an idea before I have to haggle with salespeople. Can any knowledgable people out there help?
Wish me luck!!!Buying an engagement ring. :D Need some advice!?
if you go somewhere decent (as in don't go to the mall) you shouldn't have to haggle with anyone. They should set you down tell you all about the diamonds and the bands. The 4 C's are Cut, Clarity, Carat, Color. Which lead to the fifth C wich is Cost. The higher the those rate the more expensive the ring is. Some people go out and buy Really big rings that have some internal flaws and not as clear clarity and color. Or, for the same price, some people go get really tiny diamonds that have almost (i say almost because there is no such thing as a perfect diamond) no flaws and really great clarity and color. It's all up to you
Clarity-How Clear the ring looks
Cut-The shape, and also internal cuts in the stone to give it more fire.
Carat-How big the ring is.
Color-The color of the diamond. Some can go from clear to a yellowish color.
Cost-Clarity, Cut, Carat, Color all put together.
Good luck.Buying an engagement ring. :D Need some advice!?
Having it be platinum is really bumping the price up, just so you know.

Things to watch out for - platinum is expensive, so sometimes just the setting/band is sold, and the price doesn't include the center diamond.
Make sure you choose something which has a matching wedding band, or is easy to find a wedding band to complement the engagement ring.
Good luck!

build your own enagement ring..tips..explains 4cs..fun stuff
In terms of diamonds it's pretty basic stuff. I think most women would agree that a higher quality diamond is more appreciated than a crappy big one. So the 4 Cs:
Cut- you already know she likes round, so go with that
color- diamonds run from d-z. A colored diamond is z a colorless is D. Most are anywhere from E-I. The further on you go the more yellow they get. You can tell by setting the diamond on a white piece of paper.
clarity- ranges from flawless to inclusions. Most are vs1 or 2, I would recommend a vvs1 or 2 that just stands for very very small inclusions. inclusions are just small flaws. usually trapped carbon. very small and impossible to see without a microscope.
carat- obviously the size of the diamond.
For six thousand you could probably get a VVS E in a full carat or pretty close to it. Now it also depends on where you buy the diamond. Please don't go to Zales. I've seen so many cracked Zales diamonds. they should also diamond test it in front of you and mark the inclusions for you. Good luck.. I hope she says yes.
well where are you from
you can do something like my engagement ring
there is a total of 1 carat of diamonds and the big one in the middle there are on a 14k band and I LOVE ITTT
GO TO THIS WEB SITE IT COULD HELP!
http://www.barskydiamonds.com/index.php?鈥?/a>
go to http://mdcdiamonds.com/ they have an education page and the best deals on diamonds and settings, all their settings are available in platinum.
My best friend's fiance had fantastic luck at whiteflash.com. He lives in orange county Ca., so there are plenty of stores there where he could shop and he found the best deals online there.
The ring he bought for my friend appraised at double what he paid for it. A solitaire is nicer than a 3 stone because you get more WOW factor from a big center stone. Personally I think solitaires are boring though. I think that a nice big center stone and some really small sidestones would be best.
As far as the 4 c鈥檚 go, with your budget I would shoot for as big of a diamond that you can get in your budget without sacrificing color and clarity too much, so try a VS2-SI1 clarity and G-H color, that should get you a nice sparkly stone without sacrificing too much to size. Ideally and ideal cut or hearts %26amp; arrows diamond is the best cut, it will give you the most brilliance, you can even sacrifice some clarity (though not below SI1) and still have a really pretty diamond. I鈥檒l give you a few suggestions:
Setting $1495:

.9ct round ideal cut diamond $4460:

That would make an impressive ring. The site has lots of great deals you should check it out. Also try costco, it sounds weird but they have great deals on top quality diamonds there.
Try www.bluenile.com or www.adiamondisforever.com they have great info.
Good luck!
Go downtown to Jewelers Row on Wabash I think...they should be able to educate you on what you need.
You can also ask them to teach you about the 4 C's in a mall store
One thing I learned - if you buy ';in stock'; items the jeweler may cut you a better deal than if you have to order it.
www.jewelryexchange.com
got mine there, spnt 4 grand, it is just under 2 carats total (center stone one carat) and a platinum band. Had it appraised for home owners insurance and it was apraised at 10 grand!!!
You should try something exclusive. Dont be cheap! If you live in States, she may like European things.
